If you and your client were animals, what kind of animals would you both be? What is happening and what is not happening between you? Is there anything needed in order to make it safer for one or both of you….?
As a supervisor I work with all orientations, including case workers, youth workers, counsellors, psychotherapists, teams and organisations. I work with a Gestalt approach and also with the integrative Seven Eyed Model of supervision, developed by Peter Hawkins and Robin Shohet, whom I have trained with. I see my role in supporting you in your work with clients, to broaden your awareness of what takes place between you, how you both co-create what emerges and how organisational or environmental factors play their part in shaping what happens in the room.
Having worked as Head of Service for a University Counselling and Mental Health Service for many years, as well as a service manager for other psychotherapy and mental health services, I bring my knowledge of clinical governance, risk management and organisational structures to the supervisory process. Holding responsibility for a service has also heightened my awareness of the possible tensions between the need of the organisation compared with the need of the individual.
Apart from my clinical and managerial experience, I bring a creative and playful approach to the supervisory process. This helps us to bring awareness to behaviours, experiences, sensations and transformations, both in the client and in yourself.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like to know more about my way of working as a supervisor.
